NEW Body Fitness overcame a strong start from Saint Security to seal a 43-17 win in the South & West Dorset League Premier Division.
Saints enabled their defence to turn over the first few centre passes, with great vision from GD, Lauren Banks. New Body responded with some focussed pressure in the mid-court, facilitating some excellent movement from GA, Kelly Browne, finding prime shooting position in the circle.
The mid-quarters saw New Body playing strong, focussed netball, consistently turning over balls. Izzie Roberts, New Body GD, was dominant in the circle, making scoring difficult for Saints’ shooters. Saints’ C, Sarah Garmin, moved well throughout the court, helping her team regain some momentum.
The final quarter saw Saints’ GS, Sam Rees, sink some outstanding shots but New Body had built a significant lead through the 60 minutes took home a comfortable win.Division One
EXE TRAINING 37
OJOS 25
EXE Training defeated OJOs 37-25 to move off the bottom of Division One.
A slow start to the first quarter, with even scoring end to end. Both teams took their time to settle in but Exe Training finally managed to pull ahead, establishing a six-goal lead.
OJOs came back strong in the second period, scoring five consecutive goals to almost draw level. OJOs shooters displayed amazing accuracy, converting every goal, pushing their team into the lead at half-time. The pace quickened through the second half, with both teams fighting hard and turning over ball. Exe Training capitalised on all turnovers and GS, Ellie Wellman and GA, Megan Edwards converted these opportunities into points, once again pulling ahead.
Throughout the final quarter, Exe Training continued to dominate, despite excellent defence from OJOs’ GD, Donna Butcher and GK, Lou Tayler. In the end, Exe Training took a steady win, 12 points ahead of their rivals.
Division Two
DDBI 25
DDBi maintained high spirits throughout the final quarter, their consistent encouragement of each other kept them fighting for points. By far their best quarter, DDBi outscored their rivals by three goals but it was not enough to overcome the lead WJNC had so consistently built through the match, earning the young netballers a well-deserved win.ARTIFEX B 29
MERAKI 25
ARTIFEX B took a fourth win of the season with a 29-25 success over Meraki.
This intense match-up saw both teams fighting to the final whistle. To start, Artifex seemed the more comfortable side, capitalising on Meraki’s errors in the centre third and quickly building a seven-goal lead. Meraki refused to be discounted and came back with fighting spirit and great movement around court, putting pressure on Artifex and bringing the score back to within two goals.
The intensity ramped up significantly in the second half with both teams making tactical changes and fighting for the lead. Meraki GD, Rachel Walsh, made great runs into the opposition circle, gaining crucial interceptions. Artifex GA, Madison Carter, responded with some excellent drives into space and accurate shooting to keep the score level.The final five minutes saw Artifex finally regain the lead and secure some vital turnovers, working well as a team to keep the momentum going, allowing them to pull ahead in the dying minutes and secure a hard earned win.
